In the April session of the OnRamp webinar, Boris Dolley will highlight that €2 trillion in European public procurement (€120 billion for digital) often funds U.S. software vendors. He will advocate for a coordinated public procurement and Open Source strategy to regain control, invest in European digital assets, and unlock tens to hundreds of billions in value for local startups and SMEs.
The goal: shift from dependency to strategic autonomy.!

Every year, European public procurement totals over €2,000 billion in spending, with €120 billion dedicated to the digital needs of European public entities. Historically, we’ve adopted a commodity software approach, renting these services primarily from American vendors who have invested hundreds of billions over the years—largely funded by us, European. RTE’s OSPO presentation demonstrates the power of a coordinated public procurement strategy across an industrial vertical to change this dynamic. We’re now actively investing in the digital assets of the energy transition through Open Source. Digital service companies, foundations, private procurement, startups, and SMEs all have opportunities to capture value worth tens, then hundreds, of billions of euros—if we mobilize together across all industrial verticals through Open Source.

The OSPO OnRamp meeting series provides an open, neutral and friendly forum, low-threshold entry point to exchange and learn about the basics of how to set up an Open Source Program Office and get started with open source. More on the dedicated page.
